There is a phrase that caught my attention on the book by Javier Fernandez Agued, author of “Keys to Success for Entrepreneurs”: Make sure that the best number of people to work is an odd number less than two. You’re right, although there are several reasons why we have a need for a partner on the path of entrepreneurship.
The first reason for a person looking for a partner to undertake the economic, as we prefer to seek an extension of own funds rather than seek funding from a bank, which today are not the work to fund our projects.
Even if we know what we really should look for in a partner, would double vision and business double major? A partner should complement our skills and meet some of our shortcomings.
Factors to consider in choosing a partner.
1. Never look for a partner just to put the money and go every month to reap the benefits. To do that, do not look for a partner; find an investor, because that way you have something much worse than a bank wanting to make a profit without concern of business problems.
2. Studied thoroughly if your partner has had tax problems or are on the list or RAI ASNEF because if so, only you’re soiling the image of your company making a dodgy company each time it appears the name of your partner.
3. It is not right to interfere in the personal life of a person, but when choosing your partner should know better than his own wife. If you let into your company to a person with alcohol problems or some kind of gambling, you are risking your entire project.
4. When choosing a partner, try to keep their skills are different from yours, providing another type of value. For example, if you are expert in manufacturing, looking for an experienced partner in sales. If you both have the same specialty, in the end will have a gap that only covered with another contract or a third partner.
5. Chemistry is critical for businesses as well as in marriage. Your partner will be a person you spend most of the day, so make sure there is good chemistry, if not, the relationship will have problems in the short term.
